Bridging Cultures, One Broom at a Time

There’s something undeniably sacred about traditions—especially those that have survived the storms of history and still manage to bloom in love.
Jumping the broom is one of those sacred traditions rooted deep in the soul of the African American experience. Born out of resilience, creativity, and the need for love to have its own ceremony when legal recognition was denied, jumping the broom became our vow to one another. It symbolized the sweeping away of the old, a fresh start, and a sacred entrance into union. It was—and still is—ours.
But at Pentad Weddings by JeRai, I believe tradition doesn’t have to be stuck in time to be honored. It can also evolve. It can blend. It can welcome. It can teach.
This photo—this moment—shows exactly what I mean.
Two beautiful souls from different cultural backgrounds chose to honor this African American ritual, not as a trend or performance, but as a genuine gesture of reverence. They jumped the broom not just for symbolism, but for spirit.
This is what I love most about what I do. I get to preserve the roots and still stretch the branches. I get to educate, celebrate, and elevate.
When you book me, you’re not just getting a wedding officiant—you’re getting a sacred ceremony guide. Someone who honors your story while holding space for ancestral ones too.
This is how we honor history and still make it our own.
Let’s keep crossing cultures. Let’s keep jumping in love.
One broom, one couple, one sacred moment at a time.
